The
Google Adwords has installed a new feature which is known as Impression Share. This usage of this feature allows the advertisers to know about the "Impression share" lost or gained from the competitors and also between other promotional campaigns in the account. This is a very useful addition and service being provided by Google. Advertisers can now gauge the competition by being aware of the amount of impressions taken away by the competitors in their ads.
Advertisers can learn about the "Impression Share" if they generate reports for 'campaigns' and 'account.' The percentage of share is being mentioned in the reports, for instance, if the percentage is 20 for account performance report, then the advertiser would have lost 80% of share to the competitors. Again if the report were to state that the percentage of impression share was 65%, then the advertiser would have beaten his competition.
It is our belief that this can be linked to "Market Share" of the company in the market in the following manner. It is the share of market held by a company & share of online presence in the Google Network through Adwords. This ratio is a simple but clear projection of things in the World Wide Web. Presently the "Impression share" is only available at the campaign level and Account level.
Google itself describes its Google Adwords in its help centre by stating that the Impression share was a new metric that represented the percentage of times the ads were shown (i.e. the accrued impressions) out of the total number of page impressions (i.e. pages where the ad appeared or could have appeared) in the market being targeted.
This feature is presently available through the Report Centre, and the impression share percentage can be used to carry out introspection into your AdWords campaign's share of voice. You could come up with a conclusion of revising your ads structure to draw a better attraction level.
The pleasant thing about Google has been that it has always come up with new and interesting features regularly that make significant sense to the users of the services being provided.
